Tend the roots. Choose your family. Open up communication.

Whether y’all are chosen family, biological family, adoptive family, or one of the many other different types of family structures, Queer AF Therapy can help you create a family dynamic that resonates with you.

Engaging in family therapy can feel intimidating at first. We will start slowly, tailoring therapy to y’alls unique family needs. I work from an eclectic relational-cultural, intersectional feminist, narrative, and family systems approach to help y’all navigate the challenges of forming a family, explore life changes or trauma within the family, get to know your family better, find who your family are, and/or rebuild broken family trust.

Healing the community around you is so important for healing the individuals in the family as well. When you take the step for family therapy, I see your family relationship as the client. Each individual is part of a system that creates a whole. Healing within a family looks like some a give and take, compromising, understanding and care, and safety.

You and your family may be a good fit for therapy if y’all are experiencing/have experienced:

  • supporting a family member in exploring their gender or sexual identity

  • supporting a family member(s) with past abuse, PTSD or C-PTSD

  • general LGBTQIA2S+ concerns

  • difficulty navigating life events together

  • frequent arguments/fighting

  • unhealthy communication styles

  • a lack of cohesiveness

  • supporting a pre-teen/teen though life struggles
